Guest Post by The Perfect Nose & La Mia Boutique Giveaway

I am currently in the thick of preparing for my finals and masters exams so I won’t be able to sew nor blog at all for the next few weeks. TJ from The Perfect Nose is guest posting for me today. She has a couple of giveaways this month and her post below is an awesome La Mia Boutique bonus giveaway! Check out her post and enter her giveaway!!!  -Javie

It rhymes, I like it!

Blam blam! thedashingmarmot is away exam-swotting (possibly hooked up to a red-bull-mountain-dew saline, I’m on a different continent, so I’m just going to make stuff up as I go) and I’ve dragged my soapbox in here to entertain you in her absence (it’s not a box, it’s an aged barn wood crate with character). I can see how the thought of having your usual useful, well thought out, sewing-specific feed disrupted by mindless, vapid (yet entertaining), pop-culture references is probably giving you palpitations but trust me, the shot of pure adrenalin can only make you stronger.

I’ll start off with some pleasant-tasting eye-candy: a review of La Mia Boutique May 2011. Why now? Because I have two. And since this is Javie’s blog and she’s the reason I have two (and therefore, have one to give away), you should thank her by commenting on her posts.

And now, some stand out styles in this issue.

There are a fair few draped and geometrically folded cocktail dresses and day dresses in this issue. The emphasis generally seems to be on minimalist style but there is a bit of loose/ flowing 70s influence and one pared down 50s style dress (the polka-dotted one from the cover).

Awesome-dressing, trash-talking cuties

There are also a bunch of men’s wear patterns (patterns 522, 523, 524, 529 and 530 in the pattern summary at the end of this post).

Ladies, you know you want some..men’s patterns, that is

It goes without saying (but I’m saying it anyway for the benefit of newbies) that they also have an awesome complement of plus-sized patterns (patterns 535 onwards in the pattern summary at the end of this post).

Line diagrams below. Like it? Then have a jolly good browse of this blog, leave comments and head on over to the giveaway post on my blog.

About Javie

I am a scientist by training but an artist at heart. Currently going to grad school for more 'practical' training. I love to sew, cook and craft so this is my journal of my more artistic experiments.

I find much more interesting pattern ideas from website like yours and the Perfect Nose than I can find in a newsagency or fabric store in Sydney. I love the web and your blogs…….

    • Javie says:

Thanks! I agree- and some of the garment variations I see in the blogs are better than the ones on the pattern envelopes or in the magazines.
