Burda Pattern Stashing

PATTERN SALE ALERT: For those of you who are fortunate to live near a Hancocks Fabrics store, this message is for you. Hancocks Fabrics is having one of their rare $2.49 sales on Burda Patterns from April 5 to April 9. I actually don’t live near a Hancocks so I had to drive 35 minutes to get to a store.

Now- I gave myself a goal of controlling my fabric stash this year but did not say anything about patterns (and books are off-limits too)! What is key for these type of sales is to get there early before anyone else figures it out. You can then snag the best patterns and not be forced to pick over the leftovers. I found out about the sale a day after it began so the pattern vultures were already starting to devour their prey. There were a few patterns that I wanted that were already sold out.

Here is what I managed to walk out with:

Burda Pattern Sale Haul

I wanted to get a few mens patterns since DH likes a slim fit and just hates all the big four patterns I have shown him. I am hoping the Burda styles look better on him.

I did spend a bit of time looking at fabric but did not buy anything (I was very tempted). I was pleased with my self-control until……..a strange impulse took over and a couple of NON-SALE items jumped into my cart.

What the….?!? I don’t even exercise. I tried to justify the impulse buys with lame excuses: “I usually have to order Kwik Sew patterns on-line. So now, I don’t have to pay for shipping.” and/or “If I had some cool workout gear, I will want to exercise”. Whatever. It will still be fun to make some active-wear, if nothing else, to wear during the heavy mental lifting I am doing in my graduate coursework. I will at least be comfortable. 😉

  1. Ye gads, Burda for $4.49 be still my exploding brain. They don’t sell below $8 here! Burda men’s is quite good but do check the ease in their pants patterns by placing a well fitting RTW pair over the top (particularly the casual/sport/ exercise stuff). I made shorts for Carl with one of those and he never wore them (an excellent fact to bring up whenever he asks me when I’m going to finish his laptop sleeve that I started on a year ago XP).

Thanks for the tip! Mens’s patterns are a strange animal to me- perhaps because I don’t make many of them. I hear you with the side comments from the peanut gallery too. I still haven’t finished the Colette patterns “Negroni” shirt I was making for Mr. Marmot. It took a long time because he wanted me to change the facings, add a collar stand and other annoying changes. I did most of the changes but got so bored that I moved on to other things ( a danger if I work too long on any one project).
